Week 1: Mini-Tour B4 The “Real” Tour

‘Tis a fine barn, but sure ’tis no pool, English”. – The Simpsons, Bart of Darkness

I was quite low on gas and decided to get off I-70 (i think it was) during my push from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Given how rural this particular area was I could feel it: FINALLY, I would probably see Amish people in person. My only exposure to this group of people until then was from a movie called ‘The Witness’. After driving away from the toll booth, I immediately saw an Amish man’s horse carriage parked outside a restaurant.

Not too long after that I saw two women driving their carriage to a house. Thought about marrying one of em and being Amish. Came to the realization that they’d be more repulsed by me than a Murray State student named Meredith probably is… More on that later. Not really. It’s okay I got plenty backups…well maybe one and a half backups. But yes, from time to time I do think about becoming Amish. I envy them to a degree.

see, the Amish are melting the Arctic Ice too...

The Amish contribute to global warming as well.

Finally made it to Phili – Nikhil had the hookup. Showed me to the Chinatown bus whereupon I paid $12 for a ride from ILLadelphia to New York City. “See ya on Thursday and tell Chandler I said Hi!” Told Chandler that Nikhil said hi, “Awesome!” Got to China town. Chandler introduced me to a formula one racer named Charlie. We ate pizza…and then…

start spreading the news, etc

So anyway, yes before making it to Phili/NYC I played in Little Rock (Arksansas) at the Village thanks to the gracious Haley, got lost in Nashville (Tennessee) and didn’t play where I originally intended (the French Quarter Cafe), and then I busked on campus at Murray State in Kentucky thanks to the gracious Kaki.

Arkansas: Growing up in Houston I didn't see so many trees

Almost everyone at the Little Rock show was basically there to see Tyler Tradewell, and with good reason. Home boy has an angelic voice with good lyrics too. I played before Tyler did, and thankfully the crowd was well-receptive for the most part. Most of them left after Tyler finished playing though, which sucks because This Is Jacob came on and rocked it. Very musical group of boys, that band is. Thankfully they burned me a copy of their EP right there on the spot. Fa sho…After that, Moving Mountains gave a demonstration as to why they are going on tour with Say Anything. #1 – they clearly have practiced/played a lot together in order to sound the way they did (like pros) #2 – they played their hearts out as if the venue was packed #3 -they abstained from fussing about lack of people and instead thanked those who stayed. #4 – they clearly enjoy what they do and it causes others to enjoy it as well.
